Optimel Manuka Honey Forte eye gel
Optimel Manuka Honey Forte eye gel is for use on the lid margin to help stabilise the health of the eye and relieve the symptoms of dry eyes, blepharitis and irritated eyelids. They are designed to be used AS WELL AS lubricating eye drops, not as an alternative.
Designed primarily to be applied along the lid margins, but can be applied into the lower lid pocket too.
Manuka Honey assists the surface health of the eye by creating a micro-environment that supports healing and prevents further damage. When applied to the lid margin, Optimel Manuka Honey Forte eye gel aids eye lid-margin hygiene, softening any crusts that form and lowing the pH environment helping reduce lid margin bacteria and the consequential inflammation around the meibomian gland ducts.
Reduced tear production and meibomian gland disease can increase the bacteria present in the eye, contributing to the tear film instability and eye surface damage. Applying Optimel Manuka Honey Forte eye gel 3 times a day can significantly improve the situation within a month.
PLEASE NOTE: stinging after using Optimel Manuka Honey Forte eye gel is to be expected but should be short-lived. Mild redness can occur too.

This product stings intensely for a few seconds after application, but is the only product (out of a tens/hundreds of drops and ointments) which helps my dry eyes in the evening enough to be able to read a book or watch tv.

Perfect for my seriously dry eyes and nothing else works. The stinging is needed for lubrication and gets me through most nights. So much better than eye drops. I first tried this product a couple years ago and can't find it in my country. Luckily I can order from here.

I am sorry to read about the difficulty in squeezing out the gel, it is quite thick.
It can help to warm the tube slightly first between your hands or in warm water.
Alternatively, I will be in touch to suggest the drops as these are easier to administer.

I found the actual end of the applicator to be annoyingly tiny allowing only a very tiny amount out on the eyelid at a time. For me it just wasn’t smooth enough to be able to glide along my sore eyelids, so haven’t really used it to be honest. Used Manuka Honey mixed with some warm milk and bathed my eyes with a cotton pad dipped into the lovely soothing mixture….worked a treat.

It's been a huge challenge to find a product that didn't actively make my eye inflammation worse. Tried five or six different brands of eye drops. Tried optimel as it seemed like it was a totally different type of product (i. e. it doesn't share many ingredients with other brands). It's definitely making a difference- I use it twice a day and my symptoms are much more in check. Yes, it stings when you apply it-but it's an easy tradeoff considering the comfort it brings.
