SilDerm Dual action scar gel can be used on a wide range of scars, both old and new, that result from surgery, trauma, wounds, or burns. Some of the types of scars that SilDerm can be used on are:
- Keloid: Keloid scars are normally raised, hard, smooth and shiny. Unlike other kinds of scars, keloid scars can grow for months or years after the initial incident that caused the scarring and can extend beyond the site of the original scar. Keloid scars cannot go away, but treatments can help improve the look and reduce any irritation.
- Hypertrophic: Hypertrophic scars can appear very similar to keloid scars as they are often raised and firm. However, unlike keloid scars, they do not grow bigger than the original wound site. Hypertrophic scars can be painful, itchy and may restrict movement if located over a joint. These scars usually improve within 12-24 months, but treatment is often recommended to improve appearance and reduce discomfort
- Burn: A burn can sometimes result in a keloid or hypertrophic scar, but may also result in something called a contracture scar. These can often feel very tight and may feel difficult or painful to move. Burns near joints, especially: fingers, hands, elbows, armpits, neck, hips, knees, ankles and toes, are at a greater risk of becoming contracture scars, than burns away from joints.
- Surgical: Similarly to the behaviour of burn scars, surgical scars may also become keloid or hypertrophic scars. Scars resulting from surgery may also become fine-line scars. Also known as ‘normal’ scars, these types of scars can also be the result of a minor injury. Gradually these scars often flatten and fade but are unlikely to fully disappear.
How of use:
You can begin using SilDerm Dual action scar gel once the wound has fully closed and any scabs have disappeared. If you are unsure when to start, speak with your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor before applying.
Ensure the affected area is clean and dry.
Gently glide the roller-ball applicator back and forth over clean, dry, healed skin 5-6 times to apply a thin, even layer. Allow the gel to dry before covering the area with clothing or applying other skincare products. SilDerm should be applied twice a day.
Always follow the instructions provided in the product leaflet.
Caution:
Not for use around the eye. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, third degree burns and open wounds. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult with a healthcare professional. Keep out of sight and reach of children.
