Viteyes 2 Zinc-Free offer a slight variation to the standard Viteyes 2 product for those who wish to reduce their intake of zinc and still take an appropriate combination of vitamins and minerals for eye health.

It contains a formula in line with that recommended by eye health research at the United States National Eye Institute over a period of more than 15 years. It provides a high dose of vitamins C & E, copper as well as 10mg of lutein and 2mg of zeaxanthin.

The suggested daily dose of 2 capsules contains a formula in line with that recommended by AREDS2.

Viteyes 2 Zinc-Free contains FloraGLO® lutein and Optisharp™ zeaxanthin which are carotenoids not found naturally in the body, but synthesised from our diet and utilised by the body, especially the eye. Vitamin C and E contribute to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

    See below

    I began taking VitEyes some time ago on the recommendation of my Opthalmologist. At a recent eye examination my Ophthalmologist advised that my eyes were not deteriorating - presumably because of VitEyes and the drops I take.

    Thank you Betty this is great news as the powerful anti-oxidants in Viteyes are proven to stabilise macular degeneration by preventing the delicate vessels at the back of the eye from deteriorating.

    Not effective

    I was misled into thinking that lutein and zeaxanthin were effective for wet macular degeneration. I now find that the NHS does not prescribe or recommend these products because "there is not enough evidence that they work".

    Hello Andrew
    I would like to give you a bit more background about why we distribute Viteyes.

    The anti-VEGF eye injections are the recommended treatment for wet macular degeneration.
    The AREDS2 (Age Related Eye Disease Study) clinical trial showed that lutein and zeaxanthin in combination with high dose vitamins C & E and zinc can slow the progression of dry macular degeneration.
    We have a dedicated website to the research here;
    https://www.areds2.org.uk

    The NHS makes prescribing decisions based on NICE guidelines and they have made recommendations for further robust research here;
    https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng82/chapter/Recommendations-for-research

    In addition, the NHS no longer prescribes medicines that can be bought over the counter such as supplements, eye drops, anti-histamines to reduce the annual drugs expenditure.
    However, after a family member was diagnosed over 20 years ago, we felt, as an optician and pharmacist-owned family business, that trying and then distributing a supplement was worthwhile (as do many ophthalmologists in hospital eye departments).

    We have over collected thousands of positive reviews over this time and I do hope the research update we attended from Gift of Sight, found in the newsletters section reassures you that valuable and much needed research continues in this area.

    The zinc free option is very welcome for people who are taking other supplements which also contain zinc. Be aware of zinc overload!
