We all do it - keep our eye cosmetics such as mascara until they dry up or run out. The make-up artists I have spoken to suggest replacing them every 3 months but some prefer 2 months after opening. This is to reduce the risk of eye infections or contamination of the product itself. Pencil eye liners should be sharpened regularly to expose fresh colour, particularly if you apply them to the waterline and replaced if the lid keeps falling off.
