Is it time to upgrade your eye mask?

James Sutton

In recent months, there have been some advances in eye masks in terms of how they look, what they are made from, quality and what they can do. If you have had yours for a while, why not take a look at what’s new in premium eye warming heat products.

As a reminder, applying gentle warmth around the eyelid margins melts away any blockages of oil and debris. By unblocking the tiny glands situated around the eyes, helps the tears to flow more freely to soothe dry, sore eyes and manage blepharitis. Blepharitis is a long term condition where the eyes are inflamed, sore and red and without long term treatment, they can flare up at any time.

Basically, there are four new advances;

  • A USB power source gives more options for warming without a microwave
  • A massage option gives a more active yet relaxing experience
  • An adjustable strap and eye pods helps to give the best fit possible
  • Anti-microbial fabric protects the delicate skin around the eyes during multiple uses

Designed to contour to your individual face shape, for a comfortable and personalised fit. It has detachable and moveable eye pads that enable you to place them exactly over your eyes unique position. It is ideal if you struggle to find a mask that fits your eyes or face correctly.

The gentle heat each pad emits after microwaving the self-hydrating beads inside can help to ease stress, dry eyes and blepharitis.

An adjustable and plush head strap keeps the mask and warmth in exactly the right place while you relax. It is ideal for travelling as it packs neatly and can be spot cleaned or hand washed.

The multi award-winning Peep Club heated eye wand™ PRO has settings that heat and massage the eyelids, working together to soothe, hydrate and revive dry, tired eyes.

It is so simple-to-use while relaxing in front of the TV with the added benefit of a red LED light option. This technology is also used by beauticians in advanced anti-ageing facials under a mask and works to improve collagen and elastin production to smooth fine lines and wrinkles.

This is a great added benefit in our view, as the eyes are often the first area to show early signs of ageing in our 40s and 50s.

With no microwave needed, the Weye USB heated eye mask can be connected directly to a computer, or any suitable USB adaptor to begin warming. It has a graphite core for better temperature stability meaning it stays at the same temperature throughout its operation.

Other fillings such as wheat grains gradually lose their warmth over the time the mask is worn, this will help to warm the glands for longer and therefore be more effective at improving dry eyes or blepharitis.

For improved hygiene, the inner graphite core can be removed so that the outer cotton mask can be thoroughly cleaned.

A 'smart' eye mask designed to provide heating comfort to the eyes. It works by using the USB cable, connected to a power bank, computer, or any other power source to heat the mask.

After 12 minutes of warming at one of the three temperature options, it automatically switches off.

The innovative design contours across the nose bridge (and is adjustable) giving the iFlo USB heated eye compress a better fit on the face for a more effective warming cycle.

And these all sit alongside our long-standing range of microwaveable eye masks

In summary, heat treatments such, as eye masks and goggles can improve blepharitis by gently warming the oily liquid in the glands. Combined with lid massage afterwards, this helps to release the oils and improve the quality of the tears. Many were developed by ophthalmologists and can be re-used hundreds of times.

But we are all different, so we have a range of traditional and more futuristic eye masks to relax your eyes to the clouds and back.
