Who are The Macular Society?
Running from the 27th June to the 3rd of July, this year's Macular Week organised by The Macular Society aims to raise awareness of an eye condition relating to the macula - an important but very small area for seeing at the back of the eye.This condition known as macular degeneration affects 600,000 people in the UK, many of whom rely on The Macular Society for support and advice through their large print, audio or online articles and newsletters, just email firstname.lastname@example.org or ring their telephone helpline (0300 3030 111). They also offer confidential telephone counselling sessions and nationwide support groups.
Who can they help?
They also fund research to find a cure for macular disease and are passionate about getting across the message that anyone with the right information and support can manage very well with a macular condition. Watch a short 1 minute video here featuring Mac himself https://www.macularsociety.org/mac
Here at Butterflies Eyecare, we often refer our newly diagnosed customers and relatives to them, as in the early days it can be confusing, worrying and frustrating to plan ahead for the future. They help with managing painless yet blurred, wavy vision or sight loss when you look at the centre of your vision and reassure people that they will not go completely blind. Their services are available all over the country and are FREE to anyone with a macular condition. Here is their advice for preventing macular degeneration;
We work closely with The Macular Society to ensure that anyone with a diagnosis of dry macular degeneration that is recommended or prescribed by their ophthalmologist or optician to take a vitamin supplement, receives the most effective eye vitamins that have been specifically designed and researched properly for age-related macular degeneration. Our message is that NOT all eye vitamins are the same, some are for GENERAL eye health not MACULAR eye health, where the doses needed are much higher. Our Viteyes 2 is the most cost-effective AREDS2 combination of vitamins, visit our website to find out more.
Excitement was mounting as The Red Carpet opened at the biggest beauty event of the year, The Beauty Awards 2019 with ASOS.
James and Michelle Sutton from Eye Care Cosmetics were lucky to have not one but TWO cosmetics competing in the final and even luckier to win the New Eye Innovation Award 2019 for their Waterproof Eyeliner.
Now is the time to check if your prescription goggles have survived the winter at the bottom of your swim bag, or if you can still see clearly through the lenses. With summer on its way, you may want to think about changing from clear to tinted or even mirrored lenses.
Well it's a hello to summer sunshine at last. Now's the time to say goodbye to winter holidays on the slopes and pack away your skis and skiing mask. However, if you are anything like us you are already planning your summer holiday.
